WIND ENERGY IN POLAND


The installed capacity in Poland is ~1489 MW (on 06.09.2011).

Wind energy density in Poland is one of the smallest in Europe. Installed capacity per capita is 0,012 kW, whereas per km2 of land area the figure amounts to 1,44 kW.


PRODUCTION OF WIND ENERGY

- 2004: 142,3 GWh,
- 2005: 135,3 GWh,
- 2006: 388,4 GWh,
- 2007: 494,2 GWh,
- 2008: 790,2 GWh,
- 2009: 1029  GWh,
- 2010: 1485 GWh.

Share of wind generation in domestic consumption of electric energy:
- 2004: 0,1% (142 GWh/ 144 TWh),
- 2005: 0,09% (135 GWh/ 145 TWh),
- 2006: 0,16% (245,5GWh/ 149TWh),
- 2007: 0,32% (494,2GWh/ 154TWh),
- 2008: 0,51% (790,2GWh/ 153TWh),
- 2009: 0,69% (1029 GWh/ 148,7TWh),
- 2010: 0,96% (1485 GWh/ 155TWh),

In terms of installed power Poland is not visible on the world map yet. We are far behind Germany, the USA, Spain, Denmark, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Portugal, France, Greece, Sweden, Ireland…. But our country does have a significant development potential!

CERTIFICATES OF ORIGIN

The obligation to acquire and present certificates of origin to the President of the Energy Regulatory Office for cancellation stems from Article 9a(1) of the Energy Law. The obligation is deemed fulfilled, if for a particular year the quantitative share of the sum of electricity stemming from the certificates of origin, which a power utility presented for cancellation, or from the substitution fees paid by the power utility, in the total annual executed electricity sales made by this power utility to final consumers, is no less than:
- 3.6% - in 2006,
- 5.1% - in 2007,
- 7.0% - in 2008,
- 8.7% - in 2009,
- 10.4% - in 2010,
- 10.4% - in 2011,
- 10.4% - in 2012,
- 10.9% - in 2013,
- 11.4% - in 2014,
- 11.9% - in 2015*,
- 12.4% - in 2016*,
- 12.9% - in 2017*,
- 13.4% - in 2018*,
- 13.9% - in 2019*, 
- 14.4% - in 2020*
 

* Amounts laid down in the draft Minister for Economy regulation on the on the detailed scope of the obligation to acquire and present certificates of origin for cancellation, pay the substitution fee, purchase electricity and heat produced in renewable energy sources and the obligation to confirm the data concerning the amount of electricity produced in a renewable energy source dated 19.07.2010 (as of 17.02.2011)

The wind energy capacity installed in Europe in 2010

The total wind energy capacity installed in EU at the end of 2010 was 84 GW, compared to 74 GW at the end of 2009.
The largest wind energy capacity was installed in Germany, followed by Spain, Italy, France and Great Britain. Poland at the end of 2010 had 1107 MW installed in wind energy.
